Therapies &
Treatments
I use
the most innovative and
up to date therapies available to ensure that you get the best
treatment modalities you can. As part my ongoing professional
development I am constantly seeking new information and training in
the latest therapies and treatments. But be warned, I have a
pragmatic approach, that is, if it will work I will use it, no matter
how left field, because I want a good outcome as well you.
Below are the kinds of treatments & therapies we use:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
A long standing therapy that has been
used in psychology for many
years, CBT is based on the principle that our thinking patterns can be
altered with reasoned thought, explanation, knowledge and most
importantly practice! CBT is commonly used for treating
depression, anxiety, stress, mood swings and so on. Alongside
CBT, techniques and strategies such as desensitisation, affirmations,
directive thinking etc, assist in giving tools to control mood,
impulsivity, insecurity, self esteem, self worth and so on.
Meditation
Meditation
has long been recognised as a very useful stress management
tool. In addition to this, it is also a very useful tool for
reprogramming dysfunctional thinking patterns that plague many of us
over our lives. Learning to meditate is not rocket science, its a
matter of practice, guidance and intention. With meditation, we
can learn to understand our emotions, gain knowledge of hidden beliefs
and develop insights into our lives and behaviours.
Hypnosis
Hypnosis
became very popular in the 1940's as a revolutionary tool for
controlling pain, resolving emotional issues and changing abnormal or
undesirable behaviour (smoking comes to mind). Unfortunately, it
became demonised by Hollywood, where it was depicted as some sort of
mind control method. The reality is that hypnosis is a very
useful tool for the control of pain, resolution of grief and other
emotions and for learning self control, insight and getting into
emotional contact with ourselves.
Despite the popular myth, while under hypnosis, you cannot be made to
do anything you dont want to do. Similarly, when being hypnotised
you do not feel like a zombie, rather hypnotic states are one of being
very relaxed and having a clear mind and being focused. Most
people experience hypnosis as relaxing, pleasant and feel energised and
motivated afterwards.
Pain
Management Counselling
Pain
Management Counselling is really of combination of all other
therapies with the focus on controlling pain. How that
combination is determined is influenced strongly by the patient's
extent of pain, its nature and the current situation that the patient
is in. This means that sometimes the therapy will be mostly Theta
Healing, and on other times it will be Hypnosis, and then again the
focus could be on management of other factors such as daily activities,
day to day lifestyle, patterns of behaviour and medication.
We do an extensive amount of pain management work in this practice and
as a consequence we have developed a great deal of knowledge and
experience in assisting patients with their pain.
Stress
Management Counselling
Similar
to pain management counselling, stress management
counselling is about using a combination of all other therapies to
focus on controlling a person's stress. This stress can come from
a range of sources and the management of those sources is part of the
key to controlling stress. The other component of stress
management is changing the way we interpret the stress around us and
finally developing strategies and coping methods that get our stress
under control.
Stress management is about common sense, making hard decisions and
removing those values and belief systems we have that make us
susceptible to stress in the first instance.
Theta Healing®
Theta
Healing® is an innovative therapy based upon Quantum Physics
whose research has shown that the behaviour of sub atomic particles
(nanotechnology) can, and is, influenced by human thought! In
this same way, Theta Healing® is able to use a meditative
technique to reprogram fundamental core beliefs that are responsible
for human behaviour.
Core beliefs are the basic programs for human thought and are
responsible for
such behaviours as depression, anger, anxiety, panic attack,
fear, and so. Theta Healing® is a modality where the belief
system is reprogrammed to remove unwanted behaviours and obstructions.
Because Theta Healing® is a therapy that works with the thinking
process of the brain, the results are as fast as the speed of
thought! Results are rapid and long term. The result
remains until an alternative program is installed, at which time the
new program, what ever it may be, takes over and produces new
behaviours, moods etc.
Due to the reprogramming nature of Theta Healing® it is very
suitable for pain management, where the patient has long term pain that
is persistent, such as spinal injury from motor vehicle accidents, and
limb injury from work related accidents. Similarly it is very
useful in the treatment of Occupational Overuse Syndrome (RSI) and
similar conditions.
